What is a Fab Lab?

A FabLab (FABrication LABoratory) is an open prototyping platform where knowledge sharing is essential. Tools such as 3D printers, CNC milling machines, laser cutters, industrial robot, vacuum presses or vinyl cutters as well as technical and logistical assistance are available to facilitate invention but equal emphasis is put on fostering a multidisciplinary and intergenerational dynamic between startups, artists, designers, architects, engineers, hobbyists, researchers, students and so on.

In 2013, the 1st FabLab of the country (LU) was launched at the Technoport of Belval (business incubator & coworking), and as previewed in the initial projet (2012), FabLab Luxembourg aimed an extension (XL) in Differdange, that was recently inaugurated, in June 2016 at 1535° Creative Hub. Both platforms are part of a global (official) network of fab labs that attracts individuals, enterprises and academic institutions to stimulate people’s creativity.
